Trees-for-cans project launched
A new project has been launched in Gloucestershire that will see trees planted in return for recycled aluminium cans and foil.

Under the scheme, backed by the county and district councils, one tree will be exchanged for a tonne of aluminium.

The aim of the project is to encourage residents to recycle household waste.

"Planting trees in return for recycling doubles the positive impact on the environment," said county councillor Stan Waddington.

The aluminium will be recycled through kerbside collections and drop-off points.

Native trees, such as English Oak, Scots Pine and Silver Birch, will then be planted in parks and woodland across the county.

The scheme also supports a project that aims to develop a sustainable forest in west Africa.
