Art-lovers could oversee the future of a new 8m arts complex set to be built on the site of a former concert hall. Bournemouth Borough Council announced it is to set up an independent board of volunteer trustees to oversee the Dorset town's new-look Winter Gardens.
The centre, which has the backing of seven major arts organisations, is currently being developed on the site.
A council spokeswoman said joining the board "was a unique opportunity" to be part of the Winter Gardens' future.
Management expertise
Volunteers who have a passion for the arts and the skills to oversee the centre's development are now being urged to come forward.
The board, which will operate as an independent corporate body, will be made up of up to 16 people with expertise in management, education, marketing, finance and fundraising.
The board will also be responsible for appointing a chief executive for the centre, which will open in 2009.
Cllr Angela Manton said: "You don't get opportunities like this that come along every day, and so I really hope that people take the chance to get involved in the project."
