People living in Plymouth are being asked to have their say about proposals for part of a new cultural quarter which is being planned for the city.

The Rowe Street building will house the university's Faculty of Arts as well as providing the new base for Plymouth Arts Centre.

The plans will be displayed at the university's Portland Square building and the Arts Centre.

The building is due to be completed by September 2007.

'Exciting developments'

The proposed site for the building is at the corner of Cobourg Street, Glanville Street and North Hill, at the north side of the Drake Circus development.

The move follows proposals by renowned urban planner David Mackay for the regeneration of the city.

Tudor Evans, leader of Plymouth City Council, said: "There are some very exciting developments coming forward in the city at the moment that show how the Mackay Vision can be delivered to produce exciting, innovative buildings to a very high design standard."

Members of the public are being urged to have their say by filling in a comments form.

All comments received by 29 March will then be forwarded to Plymouth City Council to assist in determining the planning application.
