Devon's Stagecoach bus drivers have voted to end their dispute over pay.

More than 80% of the 700 staff involved in strike action voted to accept the latest pay deal of 6.40.

The new deal was offered by the company after a series of strikes.

The managing director of Stagecoach, Chris Hilditch, says he is pleased so many drivers have backed the deal.

Action suspended

"I'd like to think it was 99% perhaps, but we wanted a resolution that's best for our customers," said Mr Hilditch.

"Obviously we now have that and we've got to get back to doing what we should be doing."

The new pay offer represents an increase of almost 50 pence.

The deal also includes changes to shift patterns.

After strikes earlier this month affecting south and east Devon, members of the RMT Union suspended further action after the new proposals were tabled.

Drivers held nine days of industrial action in south and east Devon, affecting services in Exeter and popular resorts such as Torbay.

Stagecoach has warned it may have to cut some routes to pay for the wage increase.
