More bus strikes announced

The strikes will take place in August
Bus workers involved in a long-running pay dispute are to stage four fresh strikes.

Hundreds of drivers, engineers and cleaners at Stagecoach Devon will walk out for 24 hours on 7, 9, 11 and 13 August.

The workers, members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union, have already held nine strikes as part of a campaign to increase drivers' pay from the current 5.93 to 6.50 per hour.

Bob Crow, the union's general secretary, said: "Stagecoach is a huge conglomerate worth billions of pounds and our members' sacrifices have made Stagecoach Devon the most profitable bus company in the South West."

The union claims that a pay offer from the company would lead to a wage freeze and a longer working day.
