Police are objecting to a request by a Newquay backpackers' hostel for a public entertainment licence until midnight seven days a week. The Zone in Headland Road wants to open late at night to both residents and non-residents.
But local police officers are asking Restormel Borough Council not to grant the licence until midnight.
They say it poses a real risk to safety because of potential problems with public disorder.
Newquay authorities have been considering a number of ways to curb rowdiness at the resort following a summer punctuated by trouble.
Party town
Residents have formed a campaign group, Newquay Against Yobs (NAY) which attracted 350 people to its first meeting.
Council officials are looking at alcohol-free zones in the town, in an attempt to stop youngsters from drinking at Towan Beach, Barrowfields and the car park and gardens at Mount Wise.
Huge numbers of tourists go to the town from across the country, many attracted by its party-town reputation.
But Towan Beach has become notorious this year for impromptu parties.
