Travellers told to move from site
Travellers' site at Cottenham
Villagers near the site have protested against expansion
A group of travellers in Cambridgeshire have been given a month to move their caravans from a patch of land.

Travellers at Smithy Fen in Cottenham have been involved in an ongoing battle with South Cambridgeshire District Council over the site.

On Tuesday, they were given a final warning that they are parked illegally. If they do not leave, then those on one part of the site will be evicted.

Villagers living nearby have protested that the site had become too large.

More than 1,000 people in Cottenham this year threatened to withhold their council tax if the site was not curtailed.

Travellers asked for 11 more pitches on the site, which had been occupied illegally before planning permission was sought.

Earlier this month, two appeal court judges ruled that no more caravans should be allowed to move onto Smithy Fen.
