Travellers force school to shut
A Cambridge school was closed on Monday after travellers moved on to a neighbouring site.

Carol McIntosh, head teacher of Colville School in Cherry Hinton said children were told to stay at home as a precaution after human waste was dumped on the playing fields.

About six to eight caravans moved onto the Recreation Ground last week.

Cambridge City Council said it was obtaining an order to have the travellers removed from the site.

Cherry Hinton councillor Robert Dryden told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I have been told by council officers that an order is being made and we hope to have it by Wednesday or Thursday.

"Also they are looking at the registration numbers of vehicles on the site to see if they are the same travellers who have been removed from other council property.

"In addition security at the recreation ground is being looked into as they (the travellers) knocked down a bollard to get into the ground".
