Survivors of the bomb attack on a nightclub in Bali have begun returning home.

One couple from Exeter spoke of their lucky escape as they were only yards from the nightclub at the centre of the explosion.

A surfer from Cornwall who tried to help some of the victims of the blast has also been talking about his experiences.

Two Indonesian men are being questioned by police investigating the bombing which killed nearly 200 people on Saturday.

Kerry O'Shaughnessy and Andy Swann were driving past the nightclub in Bali as the first bomb exploded.

A few yards nearer and they said they would have probably have been killed.

Kerry O'Shaughnessy said: "It has to be the most awful feeling that you can ever go through.

"My main fear was 'Is there going to be a second one and am I running into it?'.

"I was just running with the rest of the street. There were a lot of people screaming, running in the opposite direction.

"You just couldn't describe it."

Dan Joel tried to resuscitate victims

Two times British university champion surfer Dan Joel, from Porthleven in Cornwall, was sleeping in his apartment only yards from the club when the bomb woke him up.

He said what he saw was carnage.

He said: "I went up to the fire and there was people screaming, people with the most horrific injuries.

"It was really stuff like you'd see on horror movies."

He attempted to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to two of the victims who were horribly injured.

A man from Cornwall was named as one of the 188 people killed in the terrorist attack in Bali.

Marc Gajardo, 30, from Truro, died after just leaving the nightclub and catching the full force of the blast.

Funeral arrangements

He had emigrated with his girlfriend Hannabeth Luke, 22, to Australia 18 months ago.

The couple had been on a surfing holiday.

His girlfriend escaped the carnage by jumping from the second floor of the club.

The family of Marc Gajardo are making arrangements to fly his body back to Cornwall for a funeral possibly next week.
