| Tuesday, 15 October, 2002, 13:59 GMT 14:59 UK Bali blast victim dragged to safety ![]() The two friends are continuing with the trip A Liverpool backpacker pulled her friend from the wreckage of a bar after losing two travelling companions in the Bali explosion. Mary King dragged her friend Jamie Culshaw, 22, from Liverpool, to safety. Miss King, also 22 and from Liverpool, suffered leg injuries and burns in the bombing. The pair have vowed that they will not let the blast ruin their trip and are planning to fly to Australia in the next few days.
Miss King's sister said: "We are so proud of her and so glad she is alive. "We would like to be able to see her and hug her." Carla King added that her sister Mary saw Ms Culshaw's arm beneath the ruins of the Sari club. She told the Liverpool Echo: "Mary told us that the place was completely pitch black and engulfed in fire. Arm sticking out "The roof caved in and she was blown out of her shoes. "She was screaming for Jamie and for some unknown reason saw an arm sticking out from beneath the rubble. It was Jamie. "There were bodies everywhere but she managed to drag her out. "Her foot was gashed open and bleeding but she still tried to help people." Miss King's mother, Jane, said that knowing her daughter had survived was like winning the lottery several times over. |
