Will Marian Keyes's books appeal to men? |
In a Hardtalk Extra interview broadcast on Friday 10th June, Patrick O'Connell spoke to Ireland's best-selling novelist, Marian Keyes. Is "chick lit" patronising and frothy writing aimed at women who should know better?
Or is it a response to the changing world in which modern women now live?
Marian Keyes is one of Ireland's most successful living writers, selling more than ten million books around the world and earning a huge army of devoted fans.
Yet her latest book, The Other Side Of The Story, includes passionate diatribes against scornful and dismissive literary critics who largely ignore "women's fluff".
She talks to Patrick O'Connell about post-feminism, her return to her native Ireland and how writing helped her beat her own demons.
HARDtalk Extra can be seen on Fridays on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT.
It can also be seen on BBC News 24 at 04:30 and 23:30
