The East West Divan Orchestra will play Ramallah in August |
In a Hardtalk Extra interview broadcast on Monday 6th June, Gavin Esler spoke to Daniel Barenboim, the world-renowned conductor and pianist. Daniel Barenboim is regarded
as one of the world's finest classical musicians.
A child prodigy, he gave his first official concert in Argentina aged seven.
But beyond his conducting, performing and recording he is also an Israeli who has - sometimes very controversially - held out the hand of friendship to Germans and to Palestinians.
Daniel Barenboim talks candidly to Gavin Esler about his decision to play Wagner's music in Israel, and also his determination to tour with his East West Divan orchestra, the project he conceived with his great friend, the late Edward Said.
HARDtalk Extra can be seen on Fridays on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT.
