Duran Duran dominated the British and American charts in the early 1980s |
In a Hardtalk Extra interview broadcast on Friday 13 May, Gavin Esler spoke to Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran, who are packing out stadiums all over again. The British pop group Duran Duran dominated the early 1980s.
They sold more than 70 million albums, and had hit singles like "Rio" and "Hungry like the Wolf".
They also pioneered the use of pop videos, before MTV became established.
With model girlfriends and lavish lifestyles Duran Duran provided the soundtrack to a decade dominated by Thatcherism and Reaganism.
Now the original line up are back - and so are their millions of fans.
Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes look back with Gavin Esler on their remarkable career. They also talk about the music industry as they find it now, touring their new album. Have tv shows like Pop Idol changed popular music forever?
Duran Duran are poised to play their biggest UK date in twenty one years at the end of May - a concert in Birmingham, where it all began.
HARDtalk Extra can be seen on Fridays on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT.
