Strengthen the UK's borders through increased powers for Immigration Officers Improve the identity management of foreign nationals by expanding the immigration service's capacity to take biometric details Support the new enforcement strategy to tackle illegal immigration and illegal working through increased powers for Immigration Officers Enforce compliance with immigration laws including new powers of arrest, cash seizure and forfeiture and disposal of assets, and improved data-sharing arrangement with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). BACKGROUND The Bill would introduce key elements of the IND Review 'Fair, Effective, Transparent and Trusted: Rebuilding Confidence in our Immigration System', published in July 2006. It would give the new border and immigration agency powers to police borders, tackle immigration crime and protect the public, making it easier to deport those who abuse the UK's 'hospitality' and break the law.
