The Government is committed to the ultimate removal of all special security provisions when the security situation allows

A decision on whether and in what form these provisions are retained can only be taken on the basis of the prevailing security situation at the time and, if necessary, a Bill will be brought forward in the autumn

BACKGROUND

It could also renew the Northern Ireland-specific provisions currently contained in Part VII of the Terrorism Act 2000, which are subject to annual renewal but expire completely in February 2006.
