Commissioner for Older People (Wales) Bill

This bill will establish a Commissioner for Older People in Wales who will ensure the interests of older people are taken into account across the services devolved to the Welsh Assembly.

  • Promotes the provision of opportunities for older people in Wales and highlights any discrimination against them
  • Encourages good practice in the treatment of older people in Wales
  • Makes representations to the Welsh Assembly about matters relating to the interests of older people in Wales
  • Supports individuals in making a complaint and take on individual cases where necessary

    BACKGROUND
    The office of the Commissioner would be the first of its kind in the United Kingdom.

    The government hopes that the bill will ensure that older people in Wales will have "a Commissioner who would speak on their behalf and be their champion, raising the profile of older people."
