Bosses consider tax alternatives
Jersey's Chamber of Commerce is reconsidering its support for a goods and service tax.

It had reluctantly accepted the 5% levy because it said no suitable alternatives had been put forward.

But following proposals to raise money from other sources, the Chamber is re-examining its position.

The controversial tax is aimed at correcting a budget deficit in the island which is also introducing a zero rate corporation tax.

Deputy Geoff Southern is calling on the States to consider extra taxes on income and property instead of a goods and service tax.
