People offered platform on taxes
People in Jersey are being asked for their views on a proposed sales and goods tax.

A public meeting is being held on Tuesday night at the Communicare centre in St Brelade.

Islanders will be able to hear how a goods tax will affect them if it is introduced by the States.

The controversial tax is aimed at correcting a budget deficit in the island which is also introducing a zero rate corporation tax.

Senator Terry Le Sueur, the politician in charge of finance, said: "The goods and sales tax remains my best option, but we shall also be discussing other options and we shall be coming back to the States next year with our recommendations.

"This is a chance for the public to tell me what they think about the proposals."

Two more meetings are planned at the town hall and at St Clement's parish hall later this month.
