The union says the new laws could undermine financial rights

Union members say there are concerns the new laws could be open to abuse by unscrupulous employers.

But the politician in charge has written to the union saying the laws will be balanced.

The Transport and General Worker' Union (T&G) organised a meeting to discuss the law which is currently out for public consultation.

The union says the reforms undermine rights on redundancy pay, discrimination and protection of pay, as well as terms and conditions if jobs are transferred.

But Senator Paul Routier, who is steering the law through the States, says there is some confusion over the proposals.

He says the law should provide a balanced industrial relations strategy which will avoid costly court cases.
