Bank Holiday switch plans opposed
Plans to change the law to allow islanders to benefit from re-arranged Bank Holidays are being opposed by some Jersey politicians.

States members have been asked to improve legislation which will allow scheduled Bank Holidays to be moved when they fall on a weekend.

The proposed change would allow New Year's Day Holiday, which falls on a Saturday in 2005, to move to Monday.

Similarly, Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a weekend this year.

Members of the Economic Development Committee do not support the plan, saying it will be too costly for businesses which have to provide the additional breaks.

They say the giving of any additional holidays should be at the discretion of employers.
