About 10,000 motorists were stopped in the 2003 summer campaign |
The number of people arrested for drink-driving for the first six months of 2004 in Jersey increased compared to the first six months of 2003. Police said 147 people were arrested for drink-driving up until the end of June 2004, compared to 136 for the first six months of last year.
But officers added that there was a decrease in crashes in connection with drink-driving, dropping from 42 to 32.
The figures come as the summer anti-drink and drug driving campaign begins.
About 10,000 motorists were stopped last year in the largest such campaign the island had ever seen.
Inspector Nigel Truscott said the force was checking more drivers and this would continue with the summer crackdown. The island's Honorary police will also be involved.
