Drink-drive limit could be cut

Drink drive arrests have increased
Motorists in Jersey will not be able to drink as much alcohol before driving, under new government proposals.

The legal alcohol limit is 80 milligrammes of alcohol in a 100 millilitres of blood.

That would be cut by about a third to 50 milligrammes.

The move follows an increase in drink driving arrests in the island.

It is one of a number of plans by Jersey Health Authority to try and stop the damage done by drinking in the island.

Taxes on alcohol could go up by more than the cost of living each year.

Pubs and clubs could also be asked to reduce the cost of soft drinks in order to encourage more people to stay dry.

Other plans include more help for people with drink problems and a crackdown on under-age drinking through a review of the licencing laws.
