Nightclubs and bars are supporting the ID card scheme
Jersey Police are helping introduce a new voluntary identification card system after a rise in the number of false driving licences being used.

Young people have been forging island driving documents in an attempt to show they are old enough to buy alcohol or get into pubs and clubs.

Last year the police recovered 40 fake driving licences and this year they have already found between 15 and 20.

Deputy Chief Officer Lenny Harper is backing the new ID card system.

The scheme is being run by the Portman Group - an organisation which advocates responsible drinking - to try and curb the problem of under-age drinking.

The cards are also being supported by nightclubs and bars.

Application forms are available from all nightclubs, parish halls and police headquarters.
