States debate smart cards issue
id card
A question mark remains over the introduction of ID cards
The issues of passports and smart cards will be raised in a States sitting on Tuesday.

There will be 10 questions during the session in total, with the main item of public business concerning Mont Orgeuil Castle.

Smart cards are something that have been discussed on and off in Jersey for years.

Many see them as a way of controlling the island's population.

Independent expert

Deputy Terry Le Main wants to know the latest information on the issue and he will be questioning the Policy and Resources president.

Senator Frank Walker will also have to answer a question on the inability of Jersey people to live and work in the European Union.

That comes from Deputy Roy Le Herissier, whose proposition to appoint an independent expert to advise the States over plans for Gorey Castle is the main item of public business.

But States Members will get down to such business after Senator Walker has made a statement about public sector pensions.
