The total number of people arrested for drink driving in Jersey went up during 2003. Police arrested 289 people, compared to 272 in 2002.
More than 10,000 people were stopped in road checks during Jersey Police's Christmas anti-drink drive campaign alone.
Police say the busiest night during the campaign was Friday 19 December and the early hours of Saturday 20 December, when eight people were arrested.
Thirty-one people were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving during the whole festive season clampdown.
Of them, 20 were charged and seven are still awaiting the results of blood samples. The other four were released.
