The Salvation Army claims a new casino in Jersey will encourage gambling addictions. The States are to debate a proposal by the Economic Development Committee to build a casino at Fort Regent.
Committee president, Deputy Gerald Voisin, was encouraged over the plans by a report by Gambling Control and two UK-based experts on whether a casino would be beneficial to the island.
But Army Captain Margaret Bowers said gambling addictions were a serious concern.
She said there were already enough alcohol and drug addictions in the island, without creating gambling opportunities as well.
