States to debate casino

Deputy Farnham says the time is right for a casino in Jersey
Jersey States will be asked to debate plans for a casino this autumn.

The States member responsible for gambling says he will bring proposals to the house for a gaming centre at Fort Regent.

Deputy Lyndon Farnham says the time is right for Jersey to reverse previous decisions, and allow a casino to operate in the island.

With the States expected to be millions of pounds in the red in the next few years, he believes a casino could bring in some important revenue.

He says it could help refurbish the sports facilities at the Fort Regent site.

Plans to move them to Le Rocquier have been shelved because of a lack of money.

Deputy Farnham says the existing site could be redeveloped with money from a gaming house.
