Officials are staying tight-lipped about the successful applicant |
Guernsey's first casino operator has been chosen but the decision may not be made public for another three months. Tourism officials say they are pleased with their choice, which still has to be formalised by the States.
The decision ends a lengthy and controversial application process.
The Tourist Board is staying tight-lipped about how many people applied to run the casino.
Costs and bureaucracy
But there has been some frustration about the time it has taken to choose an operator.
In April the manager of the Old Government House Hotel announced his decision to pull out.
Ken McVey blamed costs and a high level of bureaucracy.
And it was the 3.5m price tag that put off another contender.
The managing director of the Grande Mare Hotel said the package was simply too expensive.
It is not known how many applicants remained.
But for one hotel a multi-million pound refurbishment rests on the decision.
Managers at the St Pierre Park say the whole project will fail if they do not get the licence.
Politicians will be asked to approve the successful applicant in July or August.
Until then the identity of Guernsey's first casino concession remains a closely guarded secret.
