Casino plan launched
casino plan
The casino would attract conferences say supporters

St Pierre Park will undergo a 20m refurbishment if it gets the licence for Guernsey's first casino.

Details of the hotel's venture have been revealed by Tom Scott, chairman of Channel Island Traders.

It aims to transform the hotel into a resort village, with the casino as the central feature.

Mr Scott called it an "exciting and ambitious" venture, but the whole project would fall if St Pierre Park failed to get the casino licence.

"If you take part of it away the whole lot could fall over," he said.

"We have been serious about the tender for the licence and we feel we have met all the criteria for the States."

Attract conferences

He said that a casino would attract conferences to the island.

"It is just an add-on if you are having a conference.

"If you can give them banqueting and a casino, people are surely going to book in here.

"I believe it is an important part of the whole.

"And I believe it is very important and a great opportunity for Guernsey."
