Channel Island horse races held
An annual Channel Island horse Race Day has been held despite strong winds.

The event attracted 27 runners for the day's five races at L'Ancresse Common in Guernsey.

A race marquee had to be resurrected after it blew down. Jersey favourite Hakam did not take part after a ferry crossing was cancelled in rough seas.

The Guernsey Race Club responded to concerns about the safety of the track saying it had spent 3,000 on improvements to the running surface.

The club was hosting the event for the third successive year.

Traffic controls were in place around L'Ancresse.
