Racing is under starter's orders
Horse race, PA
The club's course at L'Ancresse Common has been re-grassed
Horse racing will be making a comeback in Guernsey, after a gap of 12 years.

The Guernsey Racing Club will be running five flat races on L'Ancresse Common in May.

In recent years local jockeys have had to travel to Jersey to compete. Now a number of entries are expected from Jersey and elsewhere in the UK.

Club president Ruth Bougourd says the club applied for permission a year ago and it has taken a lot of hard work to get the event off the ground.

She said: "Our course was inspected last April because it hadn't been raced for 12 years.

"They said we had a lot to do on it, so we've done it. We've also had soil put down and re-grassed the course.

"Officials came again in November and approved it and said we could go ahead."
