Metal recycling scheme launched

Islanders can recycle metal waste free of charge
A Guernsey parish pioneered a metal recycling scheme over the weekend.

The Forest Douzaine set up a skip outside Forest School as part of a drive to reduce pressure on Guernsey's landfill site.

Organisers hope parishioners will take the opportunity to recycle their unwanted metal objects free of charge.

A Big Recycle scheme earlier this month was launched to encourage residents to make more use of various initiatives already in place in the island.

Douzaineer Bob Bartlett said: "I've been looking round my garage and my greenhouse and already in the first 10 minutes I've found an old radiator, some shower attachments, metal shelving and various odd bits of iron. I've also found an old motor mower."
