Waste disposal measures approved
States politicians have approved various measures to cope with future waste disposal in Guernsey.

Included in the measures approved on Thursday are an increase in recycling.

A final decision on whether to build a waste-to-energy incinerator in the island will be delayed until more research is carried out.

Despite opposition from some politicians, the exporting of rubbish to France and Germany is also going to be pursued.

Environment Minister Bernard Flouquet says he has reservations about some of the decisions made.

He said: "I can't deny that we could have done without the amendments, but we know they were placed with the best of intentions and we shall respect that and work hard to fulfil what is now a most complete package."
