Amendment may delay waste plans
Recycling (generic)
Other solutions, including increased recycling, could be considered
A politician is trying to stop the government in Guernsey making a quick decision on its waste strategy.

On Wednesday States members are due to debate what to do with the island's rubbish in future, and whether to export it to Europe in the meantime.

But Deputy Rhoderick Matthews believes it is too early for the government to commit to a timescale until it has answers to more of its questions.

He has lodged an amendment which could affect that timescale.

More recycling

Politicians have agreed to spend 80m on a mass-burn plant at Longue Hougue.

But the project is on hold while a full review of waste disposal on the island is carried out.

The report by the Waste to Energy Plant inquiry panel earlier this year concluded the scheme at Longue Hougue was the wrong choice for Guernsey.

It recommended taking longer to explore alternative technologies, and increasing recycling.
