Guernsey's Education Department is warning it expects an uphill battle to get the money to pay for new schools. Two schools are being built at Les Nicolles at a cost of 50m.
Millions more have already been spent on a sixth form centre for the Grammar School and the primary school, Le Rondin, which both open in the autumn.
It is proposed renovation will then take place at other schools but the education minister said it could be 2017 before all the work is completed.
The States is currently being asked to curb public spending because of an expected shortfall in revenue if corporation tax is abolished in 2008.
