Access road for school discussed
Classroom
If approved, the school is expected to open in 2007
Opposition to an access road for Guernsey's new secondary school is to be discussed at a public meeting.

If approved it will join Les Effards with Baubigny and include some traffic calming measures along nearby roads.

Residents are alarmed because they fear these roads are not suitable for any increase in traffic.

The road is supported by States Education Minister Martin Ozanne who will attend the meeting at St Sampson's School on Wednesday evening.

Special needs

The project to build the new 720-pupil Les Nicholles School will cost about 50m and should be open in 2007.

It will replace St Sampson's secondary, and help prepare for the redrafting of catchment areas when St Peter Port School closes.

A special needs school will be built at the same site for Mont Varouf and Oakdale pupils.

Guernsey States is expected to give the final go-ahead later this month and work is expected to start this summer.
