New plan for school is submitted

Existing buildings will be able to be used during construction
Plans for the location of the new secondary school at Les Beaucamps have been submitted to Guernsey's planners.

The rebuilding of Les Beaucamps forms part of the Education Council's plans for the re-organisation of secondary education on the island.

The council is working closely with the Island Development Committee to make sure the school fits into the rural landscape of the area.

If approved, work on site is expected to begin in 2006 and finish by 2009.

New classrooms and a sports hall will be the first facilities built at the school if planning officials agree.

The school will be developed in two phases, allowing existing buildings to be used during the construction.

Large poles are being installed at the site to show the size and location of the new buildings and how they will fit into the environment.
