Pay proposal for Alderney States
General view of Alderney
The election of States president will be held on 20 November
Politicians in Alderney may soon be paid an annual wage instead of an allowance for each meeting attended.

A Green Paper from Debbie Burgess is suggesting a pay packet of 6,000 a year for all Alderney politicians.

The move, which could be considered at next month's States, will cost taxpayers an extra 20,000 a year.

But it is that hoped the move will attract new candidates who may have been put off standing in the past for financial reasons.

A salary is also seen as a way of improving the status, accountability and work expectations of local politicians.
