RoSPA would like every seat in every vehicle to have a seat belt |
New road safety laws could be introduced in Alderney. States members are meeting on Monday to discuss the possibility of introducing seat belt and crash helmet legislation.
Alderney is thought to be the only island within the British Isles in which people do not have to wear seat belts or crash helmets.
Kevin Clinton, of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), will discuss safety issues at a meeting at St Anne's school on Monday night.
A RoSPA spokesman says it is good news the matter is being discussed.
Roger Vincent said: "As far as RoSPA's concerned, we would like to see a seat belt for every seat in every vehicle where it is practicable."
Mr Vincent also believes the vast majority of people in the British Isles now accept that seat belts and crash helmets do save many lives.
