Deputy Torode said anti-speeding proposals were being worked on |
The head of Guernsey's Home Department has said although he would like to see more done to combat speeding, it will not happen for some time to come. Minister Mike Torode was speaking after Deputy Chris Brock claimed speeding had reached epidemic proportions and measures were needed to tackle it.
Deputy Torode said he was in favour of a points system and fixed penalties, and proposals were being worked on.
But he added there were not enough resources to bring in legislation yet.
Deputy Torode said: "All of this introduction of new legislation takes forever.
"The Law Officers of the Crown have an extremely heavy workload, particularly with regard to human rights legislation, and there are other things of greater priority."
Deputy Brock said a whole range of measures were needed to combat the problem, including the use of speed cameras and making some roads one way where appropriate.
Last year it looked as if Guernsey might get fixed speed cameras, but Deputy Torode later ruled these out, saying they were too expensive.
