Businesses have complained about a lack of parking spaces |
A politician has called on Guernsey's Environment Department to put its transport policy before the States. Deputy John Gollop sat on the Traffic Committee before the Environment Department took over its role.
The committee's decision to reduce long-term parking at North Beach was reversed by the department last week.
Deputy Gollop said he was disappointed more was not being done to discourage car use and major changes in direction should be ratified by the House.
Last week, Deputy Minister Ivan Rihoy of the Environment Department defended the increase in the number of long-term parking spaces at North Beach.
Mr Rihoy said the move had been made in response to widespread criticism from the public over a lack of such spaces.
However, he added that his department was still committed to reducing commuter traffic.
