Work on roundabout gets under way

The work on the new roundabout is expected to take two weeks
Work begins on constructing Guernsey's newest roundabout on Monday which will help ease traffic congestion.

Temporary traffic lights are being installed to ease the flow of vehicles as work begins at the top of Val de Terres in the island.

In the past, the busy four-way junction has been a traffic blackspot.

Drivers often went too fast as they approached from either Val de Terres or Fort Road and the lay-out of the roads made it difficult to see oncoming cars.

Permanent roundabout

Two years ago, the Traffic Committee introduced a trial scheme which has proved a success.

Tailbacks have been reduced and motorists are going more slowly.

Now a permanent roundabout is planned, along with re-aligning the top of George Road to make it easier to negotiate.

The work will take two weeks to complete.
