Reservoir to boost water supplies

The new reservoir at Bests Quarry will boost storage capacity
Guernsey Water Board says it is working to minimise the risk of water shortages on the island.

The new reservoir at Bests Quarry in St Andrews should be 75-80% full by the start of the summer.

Work is currently under way to redirect run-off from Petit Bot and Saints Bay through Donkey Hill, into the new catchment site.

Chief executive Andrew Redhead said Guernsey fared better than most places through last year's long, hard summer.

'Considerable difficulties'

With the additional storage now in place, he said he thought the future looked positive.

"I don't think we will have too many problems," he said.

"We saw ourselves through last summer when other places like Jersey and parts of the UK and France were suffering considerable difficulties.

"With the hard work and efforts of all our staff, we will do our level best to make sure we don't have problems in Guernsey in the future."
