The new equipment at St Saviour will cost 250,000 |
Guernsey's tap water will be even purer after the installation of new filters. The new equipment will be put in at the St Saviour water treatment works at a cost of 250,000.
Forty micron screens will be used to filter out some of the algae that reduces the efficiency of the rest of the water treatment process.
They should be in operation by the end of August.
Major upgrade
It is part of a 2.5m upgrade of the water treatment plant, which will, when completed, see more harmful algae and bacteria removed from the island's water supply.
Water Board president, Deputy Mike Burbridge, said the board remained focused on supplying the island with clean, safe water.
He said the new equipment would bring the St Saviour plant into the 21st Century.
The Board's acting chief executive, Andrew Redhead, said the work was essential to make sure international water quality standards were consistently achieved in the island.
