The States is due to debate the planned increases later this month

Residents of Guernsey will see their water bills rise by 30% next year.

Water bosses say the water charges have to go up in order to provide a better and sustainable service for the Island.

The increase to householders has been revealed as part of the States Water Board's 10-year plan.

President Deputy Mike Burbridge says the new charges are essential to bring the island's infrastructure up to date.

"If people want good water and regular supplies then it is absolutely essential that we have some more major capital investment in the water industry within Guernsey," said Deputy Mike Burbridge.

The States is due to debate the plans later this month.
