Island faces water shortages
Reservoir
Guernsey's reservoirs are at about 73% of full capacity
The Guernsey Water Board says the island still needs plenty of rain in order to avoid problems in summer 2004.

The board is concerned that there is currently a very high demand for water from households which is well above the levels it predicted.

Rainfall in November was almost 50% up on the seasonal average for the month.

However, in the 12 months to the end of November, rainfall was still 6.3% below average.

The volume of water collected by the board in November has taken the reservoirs up to 73% of full capacity.

However, that is still 11% down on the average for the time of year.

The board says it is looking at the reasons behind the increase in demand for water.
