Deputy questions water quality
Water running from a tap
Deputy Bisson wants to upgrade filtration and improving testing
Guernsey's drinking water quality is lagging behind the UK and Europe, a Deputy has said.

Deputy Roy Bisson, a member of the island's Water Board, said improvements must by made to filtering and treatment to ensure it is safe to drink.

At a recent public meeting, Deputy Bisson said Guernsey must pay the price for years of under-investment in its water system.

With testing standards in the UK and EU rising all the time, the island needs to work hard to catch up, he said.

Deputy Bisson said more money needs to be put into upgrading the filtration system and improving testing.

This will reduce the amount of chlorine added to the water and make sure it meets the highest standards.

Water rates are set to rise to pay for the overhaul, but Deputy Bisson says without the investment islanders will not be getting the same high quality water as people living in the UK or Europe.
