Deputy Derham says the end result was not a victory for pay parking opponents |
A different method of voting could have seen proposals for paid parking passed in the Guernsey States, according to one Deputy. Deputy Peter Derham says he wishes he had put forward a procedural amendment to help get the Traffic Committee's recommendations approved.
Mr Derham would have liked the House to have first decided on whether to make motorists pay 40 pence per hour.
He would have then liked it to move on to the smaller suggested fee of 30 pence before finally voting on the case for a 20 pence charge.
He says the end result was not a victory for those completely against all pay parking, but instead a consequence of the failure to agree on an hourly charge.
Mr Derham was not impressed by the standard of the debate saying it was "a shambles".
