Pay parking is part of the island's new traffic strategy |
Guernsey States is recommending islanders leaving their cars in long-stay pay-parking spaces should be charged no more than 40 pence per hour. The recommendation comes from the Traffic Committee, which has been asked to prepare legislation to pave the way for its integrated transport strategy.
The 40 pence limit only relates to the Odeon, Salerie and North Beach car parks, as well as an unspecified number of street parking spaces.
The Committee estimates that under these plans it could raise more than 1m in revenue each year.
The Committee emphasises that not all motorists would be subject to the maximum parking fee, it says it will offer reduced rates to some islanders.
It adds it is also not planning to make people pay at times when traffic congestion is not a major problem, such as weekends and bank holidays.
