Senator calls for share sale
Jersey States
The States had a closed session to debate the Les Pas deal
A Jersey politician is calling for the States to sell its shares in CI Traders.

The company has a share in the firm which is taking legal action over ownership of land on the waterfront.

Senator Ted Vibert is asking States members to sell the shares and invest the money in other companies.

It has emerged the States Treasury administers two funds with shares in CI Traders, which owns an eighth of Les Pas Holdings.

Private sitting

The trusts' shares in CI Traders amount to just over 3%, with a value of 6m.

Senator Vibert wants the shares to be sold and the money reinvested in other companies so the trusts' work can continue.

The States finished hearing legal advice over the Les Pas land deal on Wednesday morning.

The sitting was held in private, so it could not prejudice the ongoing legal dispute.

It took close to a day and a half for members to hear all the arguments on the Les Pas issue.

Policy and resources wants to end the dispute over who owns the land on Jersey's foreshore.

To do that, it has proposed giving a 10m piece of land to Les Pas, as an out of court settlement.

The debate on whether that should happen will be held at a later date.
